Meet April
I've lived in Delaware since I was a year old. I've been married to my husband Derik for 31 years, and we have two grown kids — a daughter and a son, 30 and 19.
For 18 years I've worked for a local dental group as their insurance and billing administrator. My whole career has been tracking down insurance payments and fighting to find out where the money went. If you know insurance companies, you know how time-consuming and tedious they make everything. That's exactly why I think I'm a good fit for this job. I'm used to the hard work, and I'll keep working hard for Delaware.
I'm not a career politician. I'm running for State Auditor for the same reason I was the treasurer for my son's Boy Scout troop and spent years as a dugout mom for Nanticoke Little League — because I wanted to make a difference. For my family. And for yours.
What does the auditor actually do?
When I talk to people, the first question I'm usually asked is: what does the Auditor do?
Put simply, the Auditor of Accounts safeguards public funds — your tax dollars. The office promotes accountability and supports sound fiscal management.
That's how it's supposed to work. But we've been a one-party state for 17 years, and I don't believe any of that is being accomplished when the majority party also controls the Auditor's office. Where's the oversight? There is none.
We need a watchdog. I want to be that watchdog.
